PNE: Hastings and Renfrew - Vancouver, BC
Canstruction is Vancouver’s most unique design-build competition. Teams from the engineering, architectural and graphic design communities, along with school and youth teams, create amazing sculptures out of canned food – all for a good cause. When the exhibition is over, all the food is donated to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank where it will help to feed 25,000 people each week.
This canstruction is their take on the Nintendo classic Super Mario Bros. It was definitely my favourite and can be seen at the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) fair grounds. On display were canstructions of the Pillsbury Dough Boy, a fallen ice cream cone, a whack-a-mole game, a giant piggy bank and others. There was even a giant scrabble board and cans that kids could use to build their own canstructions. Entertaining and raising awareness, what more could you ask for?
